So Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge has safely been delivered. London has a famous new resident. This precious little baby is now 3rd in line to the throne of the United Kingdom, and expected to be the 45th monarch after William the Conqueror to sit on the throne of Edward the Confessor, in a tradition stretching back to 1066.

The Prince is already one of the most sought after celebrities in the world. People have been desperate for news of his birth, news of his name, and photos of him. Next the speculation and hunger for details will be over the choice of his Godparents. And then further down the line his childcare arrangements, and the school he attends…

The media will be given carefully choreographed access and photos of him at important points of his young life. But his parents will be doing all they can to protect him from the prying cameras and journalists. His main home as he grows up will be Kensington Palace, an ideal place where he can have privacy; accessible to all that central London has to offer, but sheltered behind the high walls of this cloistered royal community. Kensington Palace has long been a place for members of the royal family to spend their childhood years, away from the eyes of the world. Both William and Harry grew up there, and William and Kate will be keen to see this tradition continue.

So in all of this, what should we be praying for him? He will one day become King of the UK, and Supreme Governor of the Church of England, so it’s important we start praying for him during his early, formative years.

  • Pray for him to grow up knowing he is loved by his parents, and his wider family.
  • Pray for him to have privacy in his childhood.
  • Pray for him to have as normal a life as possible.
  • Pray for him to come to know Jesus from an early age.
